When Will the TNPSC Group 1 Result 2026 Come Out?
TNPSC has not announced a date. The commission does not usually announce result dates in advance; it posts the result on its website and issues a press release on the same day. Candidates should check the “Results” section of tnpsc.gov.in and the press releases page rather than relying on dates circulating on social media.
TNPSC Group 1 Prelims Exam Pattern
According to TNPSC’s published scheme of examination, the Group I preliminary exam is a single objective-type paper:
| Part | Questions | Standard |
|---|---|---|
| General Studies | 175 | Degree |
| Aptitude and Mental Ability | 25 | SSLC |
| Total | 200 questions, 300 marks |
The prelims is a screening test. Its marks are used only to shortlist candidates for the Main Written Examination and are not added to the final score.
TNPSC Group 1 Minimum Qualifying Marks and Cut-Off
Two different numbers matter here. Minimum qualifying marks are the floor set in the scheme of examination. The cut-off is the actual score of the last candidate shortlisted in each category, which is usually higher because only a limited number of candidates are called for the Mains in proportion to the vacancies.
| Category | Minimum qualifying marks (out of 300), as per TNPSC scheme |
|---|---|
| OC (open competition) | 120 |
| All other categories | 90 |
These figures are from the TNPSC scheme of examination published in 2020. Candidates should confirm them against Notification No. 05/2026, which is the final authority for this recruitment. The category-wise cut-off for 2026 will be known only after the commission releases the result or the marks.
What will decide the 2026 cut-off
- The number of vacancies in each category under the notification
- How many candidates actually appeared
- The difficulty level of the 27 September paper
- Communal reservation rules applied by TNPSC
Any “expected cut-off” figure you see online is a guess by coaching institutes, not an official number.

Marks and Scorecard
The prelims result PDF lists only register numbers. Individual marks are made available separately by the commission later in the process. Watch the press releases page for the announcement, and keep your one-time registration (OTR) login details handy for the tnpscexams.in portal.
What Happens After the Prelims Result
Shortlisted candidates move to the Main Written Examination. Under the TNPSC scheme, the Mains has three descriptive papers of 250 marks each, followed by an interview and record of 100 marks. Dates for the Mains, and any application or document upload required before it, will be announced by TNPSC after the prelims result. Candidates who clear the prelims should start Mains answer-writing practice now rather than waiting for the schedule.
Candidates who are not shortlisted can check the commission’s annual planner on tnpsc.gov.in for the next Group I and Group II notifications.
