JEE Main 2027 Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

One of the most significant engineering entrance exams in India is the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main. It assists students in applying to undergraduate engineering, architecture, and planning programs at NITs, IIITs, and other partnering schools. It is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It also functions as the JEE Advanced qualifying exam. Before beginning their preparation, students preparing for JEE Main 2027 should be aware of the syllabus, exam format, total marks, and marking scheme.

Candidates can prioritize key subjects, make an efficient study plan, and enhance their performance by preparing as per JEE Main 2027 Syllabus. The information below uses the most recent curriculum and established exam pattern as a guide for preparation; any modifications for 2027 will be decided by NTA.

JEE 2027 Marking Scheme

Before taking the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, students should familiarize themselves with the grading system. This will help them organize their approach to answering questions and prevent unneeded negative marks. The National Testing Agency (NTA) administers the test for admission to participating universities and undergraduate engineering programs. Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech, Paper 2A for B.Arch, and Paper 2B for B.Planning are all included in JEE Main.

The JEE Main 2027 information bulletin, released with the Session 1 notice on 24 October 2026, confirms the marking scheme. In both multiple-choice and numerical-value questions, a correct answer gets four marks and a wrong answer loses one mark. The table below sums it up.

Particulars Details
Exam Conducting Authority NTA
Exam NameJEE Main Exam 2027
Paper 1B.E/B.Tech
Paper 2AB.Arch
Paper 2BB.Planning
For Each Correct Answer+4 marks under the latest available pattern
For Each Incorrect Answer -1 as Negative Marking system applied
Unanswered Question 0 Mark
Paper 1 total75 questions, 300 marks
Paper 2A total77 questions, 400 marks
Paper 2B total100 questions, 400 marks

Disclaimer: The marks above are taken from the JEE Main 2027 information bulletin. The Paper 2A drawing test has no negative marking. Check the NTA website for any later change.

How Is the JEE Main 2027 Score Determined?

If the marking scheme is the same for the 2027 test, candidates can use the following formula to estimate their raw marks:

  • Raw Score = (Number of Correct Answers × 4) − (Number of Incorrect Answers × 1)
  • Zero points are awarded for unanswered questions.
  • Assume, for instance, that a candidate answers 50 questions properly, 15 questions wrong, and 10 questions without providing a response. The raw score would be (50 × 4) − (15 × 1) = 200 − 15 = 185 out of 300.
