PM YASASVI Scholarship 2027: Important Dates

The Ministry has not yet issued a notice for the 2027-28 session. We will not guess dates. For reference, the last notice that carried a fixed timetable, for 2023, opened applications on 11 July 2023 and closed them on 10 August 2023. Later sessions have run through the National Scholarship Portal, so the NSP homepage and the Ministry website are the two places to watch.

PM YASASVI Eligibility Criteria

The conditions below come from the Ministry’s published notices for the Top Class School Education component. Always confirm them against the notice for the year you are applying in.

Category

The student must belong to an OBC, EBC or DNT/SNT community and hold a valid certificate issued by the competent authority.

Family income

The total annual income of the parents or guardian, from all sources, must not exceed ₹2.50 lakh.

Class and school

Fresh awards are given to students studying in Class 9 or Class 11 in a school on the Ministry’s list of top class schools. The scholarship then continues into Class 10 and Class 12, subject to renewal on the portal. A student in a school that is not on the list cannot claim this component, however good the marks.

Marks

The Ministry’s notice of 22 September 2023 set a minimum of 60% marks in Class 8 (for Class 9 applicants) or Class 10 (for Class 11 applicants).

PM YASASVI Scholarship Amount

ClassMaximum support per yearWhat it covers
Classes 9 and 10Up to ₹75,000School fee, including tuition and hostel charges
Classes 11 and 12Up to ₹1,25,000School fee, including tuition and hostel charges

These are ceilings, not fixed payments. The amount actually released depends on the fee charged by the school and the limits in the scheme guidelines.

How Selection Works Now

From 2021 to 2023 the National Testing Agency (NTA) was meant to hold the YASASVI Entrance Test (YET) to pick scholars. In September 2023 the Ministry dropped the test, citing the short time left and the extra burden on students, and said selection would be made on merit using Class 8 or Class 10 marks through the National Scholarship Portal. Unless a new notice says otherwise, students should expect merit-based selection rather than an entrance exam.

After a student applies, the school verifies the admission and documents, the state or district nodal officer carries out a second check, and approved scholarships are paid into the student’s bank account.

Documents Required

  • Aadhaar number of the student (as required on NSP)
  • OBC, EBC or DNT certificate from the competent authority
  • Family income certificate for the current year
  • Mark sheet of Class 8 or Class 10, as applicable
  • Bonafide or admission certificate from the school
  • Fee receipt from the school
  • Bank account details in the student’s name, seeded with Aadhaar
  • Recent passport-size photograph

Names, dates of birth and bank details should match across all documents. Mismatches are the most common reason applications are marked defective.

How to Apply on the National Scholarship Portal

  1. Go to scholarships.gov.in when the window for the session is open.
  2. Complete One Time Registration (OTR) if you do not already have an OTR number.
  3. Log in and fill in personal, academic and bank details.
  4. Select the Top Class School Education scheme for OBC, EBC and DNT students from the list of schemes shown to you.
  5. Upload the required documents and check every entry before final submission.
  6. Save or print the acknowledgement, then follow up with your school for verification.

Screens and labels on NSP change from year to year, so read the instructions shown on the portal for the session you are applying in.

Checking Application Status

Log in to NSP to track your application through school verification, state verification and payment. If the application is marked defective, read the reason carefully, correct the details within the time allowed and resubmit. If school verification is pending for long, speak to the institute nodal officer.

Tips Before You Apply

  • Ask your school whether it is on the current list of top class schools.
  • Get the income and category certificates made well before the window opens; these take the longest.
  • Make sure the bank account is active and Aadhaar-seeded for Direct Benefit Transfer.
  • Apply only on scholarships.gov.in. Nobody needs to be paid to submit the form.
