UP Board Class 9 Exam Pattern 2027

All five core-subject syllabus PDFs for 2026-27 set the same overall split. The written paper is worth 70 marks and the school awards the remaining 30 through internal assessment spread across the year.

Internal assessment30
Total100

How the written paper is split

The Hindi syllabus divides the 70-mark paper into an objective section of 20 marks and a descriptive section of 50 marks. Other subjects list unit-wise marks rather than a section split, so check the model paper for your subject on the UPMSP website before the exam.

How the 30 internal marks are given

In Hindi, English and Mathematics, the 30 internal marks are made up of three parts of 10 marks each: two assessments set by the school during the year (for example oral expression and creative writing in the languages, or portfolio work in Mathematics) and a third part based on four unit tests. Science and Social Science award these marks through practicals, projects and unit tests instead (see their sections below). The unit-test schedule printed in these syllabi is:

Unit testTimingTypeMarks
FirstSecond week of JulyMultiple choice20 (10 for the test, 10 for summer homework)
SecondLast week of AugustDescriptive20
ThirdLast week of NovemberMultiple choice20
FourthLast week of DecemberDescriptive20

The total of the four tests is scaled down to 10 marks.

The prose and poetry lessons include writers such as Premchand, Mahadevi Verma, Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Kabir, Meera Bai, Jaishankar Prasad, Nirala and Harivansh Rai Bachchan, along with one-act plays and a lesson on road safety. Check the PDF for the exact chapter list and the marks for each unit.

How to Download the UP Board Class 9 Syllabus PDF

  1. Go to the UPMSP website, upmsp.edu.in.
  2. Open the “Syllabus” (पाठ्यक्रम) section. It is labelled for the 2026-27 session.
  3. Choose Class 9 to see the subject list.
  4. Click the subject you need, for example 928 Maths or 931 Science, to open the PDF.
  5. Save the file and check the session printed on it before you plan your studies.

Some older PDFs on the site use a legacy Hindi font. If the text looks garbled on your phone, open the file on a computer or ask your school for a printed copy.

Study Tips for the Class 9 Annual Exam

  • Use the unit-wise marks above to decide where to spend more time. Algebra in Maths and “Motion, Force and Work” in Science carry the most weight.
  • Take the unit tests seriously: together they count for 10 internal marks.
  • Keep a separate notebook for formulas, definitions and labelled diagrams.
  • Practise map work for Social Science every week.
  • Solve the UPMSP model papers for your subjects once the syllabus is complete.

Class 9 is also the year to start planning for the board exam. Our UP Board 10th time table 2027 explains how the board schedules Class 10 papers.
