Tamil Nadu’s SSLC candidates now have their exam calendar. The TN 10th time table 2027 puts the first paper, Tamil and the other first languages, on Wednesday, 17 March 2027 and the last one, Optional Language, on Monday, 12 April 2027. The Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE), Chennai, released the 2026-27 schedule on 14 October 2026, and School Education Minister A Rajmohan unveiled it at a DGE event in the city, DT Next reported.

Six papers, spread over 27 days. Practicals come first, in the last fortnight of February, and the Directorate has pencilled in 20 May 2027 as the tentative result date. According to the government press release quoted by DT Next, about 7.90 lakh students are expected to write the Class 10 exam this time.

  • SSLC theory papers: 17 March to 12 April 2027 (six papers)
  • Practical exams: 19 to 26 February 2027
  • Daily timing: 10.00 am to 1.15 pm; writing starts at 10.15 am
  • Tentative result: 20 May 2027
  • Released by DGE Tamil Nadu on 14 October 2026; about 7.90 lakh candidates expected

TN 10th Time Table 2027: Date, Day and Paper

The SSLC timetable is short compared with the Plus Two one, because every Class 10 student in the state board writes the same set of papers. Part I is the first language (Tamil for most students, or one of the other first languages offered), Part II is English, the three Part III papers are Mathematics, Science and Social Science, and Part IV is the Optional Language.

Here is the full schedule as printed in the Directorate’s timetable signed on 14 October 2026. We have checked each weekday against the 2027 calendar.

9 April 2027FridayPart IIISocial Science
12 April 2027MondayPart IVOptional Language

Students who write the Optional Language paper should note that it is the final paper, on 12 April. That paper is easy to forget about after Social Science, so keep it on the revision plan.

Reporting Time and the 3-Hour Writing Window

Every SSLC paper begins at 10.00 am and ends at 1.15 pm. The first fifteen minutes are not for writing answers. The Directorate splits them like this:

  • 10.00 am to 10.10 am: reading the question paper
  • 10.10 am to 10.15 am: checking and verifying your particulars on the answer booklet
  • 10.15 am to 1.15 pm: writing time (three hours)

The same pattern ran in March and April 2026, so schools already know the drill. Reach the centre well before 10 am. The exact reporting time, the dos and don’ts and your exam centre will be printed on the hall ticket, which the DGE has not released yet. Do not rely on a WhatsApp forward for the centre address; the hall ticket is the document to go by.

How Many Days You Get Between Papers

This is the part of the schedule that matters most for revision. The breaks shrink steadily as the exam goes on. There are seven free days between the language paper and English, then five before Mathematics, four before Science, three before Social Science and only two before the Optional Language.

Put simply, the front half of the exam is relaxed and the back half is not. Science and Social Science, the two heaviest syllabi for most students, sit in the tightest stretch.

Language and English: the long runway

The eight-day stretch from 17 March to 25 March is the longest in the whole SSLC calendar. It is tempting to spend all of it on English, but that is rarely necessary. A couple of days on grammar and the prose and poetry lessons will do for most students; the rest is better spent on Mathematics, which comes six days after English.

Mathematics and Science: the middle stretch

Mathematics on 31 March is followed by Science on 5 April, with four clear days in between (1 to 4 April). That is enough for a final revision of Science only if the diagrams and the long-answer chapters have been covered earlier. Four days is not the time to learn a lesson for the first time.

Social Science and Optional Language: the squeeze

From Science on Monday, 5 April, to Social Science on Friday, 9 April, there are three days. Map work, the history timelines and the economics chapters all need time, so finish one full round of Social Science before the exam even starts. After that, the Optional Language comes on Monday, 12 April, with just the weekend in between.

SSLC Practical Exams: 19 to 26 February 2027

The Class 10 practical examinations are scheduled from Friday, 19 February, to Friday, 26 February 2027. The Directorate’s schedule gives only this window, not subject-wise practical dates, so your school will tell you which day and slot your batch has.

The gap between the last day of practicals and the first theory paper is about three weeks (26 February to 17 March). Pending record notebook work is best finished before the practicals, not after, so that the three weeks can go fully into theory revision.

Note: The Class 12 practicals run earlier, from 8 to 18 February 2027, so if a school has both Class 10 and Class 12 students, the labs will be busy for most of February.

SSLC Dates Beside the Plus Two and Plus One Papers

The SSLC exam does not run alone. The same timetable has the Plus Two (Class 12) public exam from 3 to 29 March 2027 and a Plus One (Class 11) exam from 5 March to 1 April 2027, which this year is only for arrear candidates of the 2018 to 2025 batches. All three follow the same 10.00 am to 1.15 pm timing.

We laid the three calendars side by side. Not a single SSLC paper falls on a day when a Plus Two or Plus One paper is held. In March, the SSLC dates (17, 25 and 31 March) sit between Plus Two days (15, 19, 23 and 29 March) and Plus One arrear days (16, 18, 22, 24 and 30 March). In April, the Class 10 students have the exam halls almost to themselves after 1 April.

For families with one child in Class 10 and another in Class 12, this means no morning where both have to be at an exam centre at the same time, though the second half of March will still be a busy fortnight at home. The full Plus Two schedule, subject by subject, is in the DGE PDF, and boards outside Tamil Nadu are covered in our CBSE Class 12 date sheet 2027 report.

What Shifted From the 2026 SSLC Schedule

The 2027 dates are roughly a week later than last year’s. In the 2025-26 session, which the DGE notified on 4 November 2025, the SSLC exam ran from 11 March to 6 April 2026. The subject order has not changed at all: language, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and the Optional Language at the end.

Two other things stand out. The schedule came out about three weeks earlier this year (14 October 2026 against 4 November 2025), and the tentative result date has stayed exactly where it was, on 20 May.

The 2026 column is taken from the DGE’s 2025-26 timetable PDF, which is still on the Directorate’s timetable page. One practical effect of the later start: the English paper in 2027 comes eight days after the language paper, against five days last year.

Planning Revision Backwards From 17 March

With the TN 10th time table 2027 fixed this early, students have roughly five months before the first paper. The dates suggest a simple way to split that time. This is our suggestion, not a DGE instruction, and your school’s own model exam calendar should take priority where the two clash.

Till the end of January: finish the syllabus once

Aim to finish one complete reading of every subject before February. Social Science and Science deserve the most time here, because they have the shortest gaps in April.

February: practicals and the first full revision

The practicals take up the week of 19 to 26 February. Around them, start a full revision, one subject at a time, and write at least one complete previous-year paper for each subject under the 10.15 to 1.15 clock.

March and April: let the gaps decide

Once the exam starts, use each break for the next paper only, with one exception: spend part of the long gap before English on Mathematics and Science. The two-day weekend before the Optional Language is enough only if that subject was revised in March.

TN SSLC Result 2027: 20 May, Tentatively

The Directorate’s schedule lists 20 May 2027 as the tentative date for the SSLC result. The Plus Two and Plus One (arrear) results are listed for 7 May 2027. “Tentative” is the Directorate’s own word; the final date and time are normally confirmed closer to the day, once valuation is complete.

That gives a gap of 38 days between the last SSLC paper on 12 April and the expected result. Families already looking at Class 11 seats, including in CBSE schools such as the Maharishi Vidya Mandir branches and their admission process, should plan around that date, since most Class 11 admissions need the Class 10 mark statement.

Is the Official TN SSLC Timetable PDF Online Yet?

The DGE released the 2026-27 timetable at its Chennai event on 14 October, and the document, signed by the Director and dated 14.10.2026, has been circulating since then. When we checked the Directorate’s Timetable section on 21 October 2026, however, it still listed only the 2025-26 file. Once the new PDF is uploaded, this is how to find it:

  1. Open dge.tn.gov.in, the website of the Directorate of Government Examinations, Chennai.
  2. Click “Timetable” in the top menu.
  3. Look for the line on the SSLC, Class 12 and Class 11 (arrear) public examination 2026-27 time table.
  4. Open the PDF. The SSLC table is on the last page, after the Plus Two and Plus One tables.
  5. Match the dates with the table above and save a copy for your study planner.

Your school will also put the TN 10th time table 2027 up on its notice board. If anything on the school copy differs from the DGE PDF, the DGE version is the one that counts.

For comparison with other boards, the CBSE Class 10 date sheet for 2027, the ICSE Class 10 time table and the UP Board High School schedule are on MVM Times, and our board exams section tracks other state boards as they announce.
