Plus Two students in Tamil Nadu will write their last board paper on Monday, 29 March 2027, and if the Directorate keeps to its own plan, they will see their marks on 7 May. The TN 12th time table 2027, released by the Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE) on 14 October 2026, opens with the Tamil and other first-language papers on Wednesday, 3 March 2027. Practical exams come before that, from 8 to 18 February.

School Education Minister A Rajmohan released the schedule at a DGE event in Chennai. About 8.70 lakh students are expected to appear for the Class 12 exam, according to the government press release cited by DT Next. The Hans India also carried the dates the next morning.

The Plus Two window also overlaps with the SSLC exam, which runs from 17 March to 12 April 2027. We compared the two lists: no SSLC paper falls on a Plus Two exam day, so homes with a Class 10 and a Class 12 student will not have both children writing on the same morning. In the second half of March, though, the two schedules run side by side.

Note: On 21 October 2026, the DGE website’s Timetable page still showed only the 2025-26 PDF. The dates here are from the Directorate’s 2026-27 timetable dated 14 October 2026 and their start and end dates match newspaper reports of the release.

TN 12th Time Table 2027, Date by Date

The Plus Two exam is spread over seven days. The two language papers come first: Part I (Tamil and other languages) on 3 March and Part II (English) on 8 March. The remaining five days are for the Part III subjects. Because the state board offers dozens of group combinations, each Part III day carries several subjects, and a student writes only the one that belongs to their group.

We have checked every weekday against the 2027 calendar, and the subject groupings above are as printed in the Directorate’s timetable. One caution: a few early news reports listed some of these subjects on different days. If you have saved a list from a forward or a news app, compare it with this table or, better, with the DGE PDF once it is uploaded.

Reading the Schedule for Your Own Group

A long subject list can hide the dates that actually matter to you. Here is how the main subjects fall, grouped the way students tend to think about them. Pick out your four Part III subjects and you have your personal timetable.

Science subjects

  • Chemistry: 12 March
  • Computer Science, Computer Applications, Bio-Chemistry: 15 March
  • Biology, Botany: 19 March
  • Physics: 23 March
  • Mathematics, Zoology, Micro Biology: 29 March

A student in the Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics group therefore writes on 12, 19, 23 and 29 March. Mathematics comes last, six days after Physics, which is the longest Part III gap in the schedule.

Commerce subjects

  • Accountancy: 12 March
  • Computer Applications, Statistics: 15 March
  • Business Mathematics and Statistics: 19 March
  • Economics: 23 March
  • Commerce: 29 March

Humanities subjects

  • Geography: 12 March
  • Political Science, Advanced Language (Tamil), Home Science, Ethics and Indian Culture, Communicative English: 15 March
  • History: 19 March
  • Economics: 23 March

Vocational subjects

Vocational students have papers on four of the Part III days. Basic Electrical Engineering and Nursing (Vocational) are on 15 March. The engineering trades (Basic Electronics, Civil, Automobile and Mechanical), Textile Technology and Office Management and Secretaryship are on 19 March. Employability Skills is on 23 March. Nutrition and Dietetics, Textile and Dress Designing, Food Service Management, Agricultural Science and Nursing (General) are on 29 March.

Study Breaks Built Into the TN 12th Time Table 2027

Unlike the SSLC schedule, where the breaks shrink as the exam goes on, the Plus Two schedule keeps its gaps fairly even. Counting only the clear days between two exam days:

  • Language (3 March) to English (8 March): four days
  • English to the Chemistry, Accountancy and Geography day (12 March): three days
  • 12 March to the Computer Science and Political Science day (15 March): two days, the shortest break
  • 15 March to the Biology, Botany and History day (19 March): three days
  • 19 March to the Physics and Economics day (23 March): three days
  • 23 March to the Mathematics, Zoology and Commerce day (29 March): five days, the longest Part III break

Students in the Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and Mathematics group get the tight two-day turnaround from Chemistry to Computer Science. Commerce students face the same squeeze between Accountancy and Computer Applications or Statistics. For both groups, the practical answer is to do one full round of the 15 March subject before the exams start, so those two days are only for revision.

Mathematics, often the paper students worry about most, has the most room. With the five days from 24 to 28 March and the weekend inside that stretch, there is time for two or three full-length timed papers before the final day. Students who take Zoology get the same breathing room, since it is on the same last day.

One more point for Part I. The language paper on 3 March is the first public exam of the season for the whole state, and it comes about a fortnight after the practicals end. It is easy to treat the language paper lightly, but it carries the same weight in the total as any other paper, and a good first day settles the nerves for the rest of March.

Inside the Exam Hall: 10.00 am to 1.15 pm

Each Plus Two paper is a three-hour paper, but the session is three hours and fifteen minutes long. The first ten minutes, from 10.00 to 10.10 am, are for reading the question paper. The next five, 10.10 to 10.15 am, go into verifying your particulars on the answer booklet. Writing starts at 10.15 am and ends at 1.15 pm.

Use the ten reading minutes properly. Mark the questions you are sure of, decide the order of attack for the long answers, and note which choice questions you will take. That small plan saves more time later than ten minutes of early writing ever could. The reporting time and centre rules will be printed on the hall ticket, which has not been issued yet.

Practicals Come First: 8 to 18 February

The Class 12 practical exams are scheduled from Monday, 8 February, to Thursday, 18 February 2027. The DGE schedule gives only this window. The date and slot for each of your practicals will come from your school.

That leaves a clear gap of nearly two weeks between the end of practicals and the Part I paper on 3 March. Students who finish their record work in January will be able to give that fortnight entirely to theory, which is where most of the marks are.

Plus One Exam in March 2027: Arrear Candidates Only

The 2026-27 schedule includes a Higher Secondary First Year (Plus One) exam, but only for arrear candidates of the 2018 to 2025 batches. It runs from 5 March to 1 April 2027 with the same 10.00 am to 1.15 pm timing, and there is no practical slot for it in the schedule. The dates are:

  • 5 March (Friday): Part I, Tamil and other languages
  • 16 March (Tuesday): Part II, English
  • 18 March (Thursday): Chemistry, Accountancy, Geography
  • 22 March (Monday): Mathematics, Zoology, Commerce, Micro Biology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Textile and Dress Designing, Food Service Management, Agricultural Science, Nursing (General)
  • 24 March (Wednesday): Physics, Economics, Employability Skills
  • 30 March (Tuesday): Communicative English, Ethics and Indian Culture, Computer Science, Computer Applications, Bio-Chemistry, Advanced Language (Tamil), Home Science, Political Science, Statistics, Nursing (Vocational), Basic Electrical Engineering
  • 1 April (Thursday): Biology, Botany, History, Business Mathematics and Statistics, Basic Electronics Engineering, Basic Civil Engineering, Basic Automobile Engineering, Basic Mechanical Engineering, Textile Technology, Office Management and Secretaryship

None of these Plus One dates clashes with a Plus Two date, so a student who is clearing a Class 11 arrear while in Class 12 will not face two papers on the same morning.

Last Year Against This Year

Set the TN 12th time table 2027 next to last year’s and the changes are small but real. The 2026 Plus Two exam, according to the DGE’s 2025-26 timetable dated 4 November 2025, ran from Monday, 2 March, to Thursday, 26 March 2026. Practicals were held from 9 to 14 February 2026, and the tentative result date was 8 May 2026. So the 2027 exam starts a day later and ends three days later, the practical window is longer (eleven days against six), and the result is pencilled in a day earlier.

The order of subjects has moved around, though. In 2026, Physics was on the fourth day and Mathematics on the fifth; this time Physics is on the sixth day and Mathematics on the seventh and last. Computer Science, which was the final paper in 2026, now comes on 15 March. Students who had seen last year’s timetable with seniors should not assume the same sequence.

The release itself came earlier too: 14 October this year against 4 November last year. That gives schools three more weeks to plan the model exams around the final dates.

TN 12th Result 2027: 7 May on the Calendar

The Directorate has listed 7 May 2027 as the tentative date for the Plus Two result, together with the Plus One arrear result. The SSLC result is listed for 20 May. These are planning dates; the DGE confirms the actual day and time closer to the event.

Counting from the first practical on 8 February to the expected result on 7 May, the whole Plus Two exam season runs just under three months. The 39-day stretch after the last paper is the window for valuation and the tabulation of marks.

Students who are also preparing for entrance tests should note that the board exam ends on 29 March. Anyone moving to a CBSE school or comparing timelines across boards can look at our CBSE Class 12 date sheet for 2027, the ISC Class 12 time table and the UP Board Intermediate schedule.

Getting the Official Copy

The safest copy of the TN 12th time table 2027 is the one on the DGE’s Timetable page. When the 2026-27 file goes up, it should sit where the 2025-26 one is now. Last year’s PDF had four pages: a summary table first, then the Plus Two timetable, the Plus One arrear timetable and finally the SSLC timetable. Expect the same layout. Schools will also share it with students, and the class teacher can confirm your group’s subjects if any doubt remains.

Parents with a younger child in Class 10 can find the SSLC dates in our board exams coverage. For families in Chennai looking at schools for the next academic year, our report on Maharishi Vidya Mandir Chetpet admission 2027-28 covers the application window.

The SSLC papers begin on 17 March, after most Plus Two papers are over; the full list is on our TN 10th time table 2027 page.
