Eleven days, eight papers, one sitting a day. That is the shape of the Madhyamik Routine 2027, which the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) notified on 13 July 2026. The Madhyamik Pariksha (Secondary Examination) 2027 opens on Monday, 15 February 2027 with the First Language paper and ends on Thursday, 25 February 2027 with the optional elective subjects.

As of 22 October 2026, the current Class 10 batch has 116 days left before the first paper. The routine linked on the board’s website today is still the July notice. Below is the full date-wise list with weekdays, a count of the free days between papers, the separate finishing times for elective subjects, and the items the board says it will announce later.

  • Exam dates: 15 to 25 February 2027 (Monday to Thursday)
  • Papers: 8 written papers, one subject a day
  • Time: 10:45 AM to 2:00 PM for compulsory papers
  • Reading time: 10:45 to 11:00 AM, for reading the question paper only
  • Free days in between: 17, 20 and 21 February
  • Notice: WBBSE No. EMU/C/35, dated 13 July 2026
  • Official website: wbbse.wb.gov.in

Madhyamik Routine 2027: full date-wise schedule

The table follows the board’s notification line by line. Every compulsory paper has the same slot. Question papers are handed out at 10:45 AM, the first quarter of an hour is for reading, and the paper closes at 2:00 PM.

Which languages count as First and Second Language

The notice lists twelve First Language options: Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Modern Tibetan, Nepali, Odia, Gurumukhi (Punjabi), Telugu, Tamil, Urdu and Santali. The Second Language rule is simple. A student whose First Language is anything other than English writes English on 16 February. A student who has English as First Language writes Bengali or Nepali as the Second Language.

Gaps between papers: how the 11 days are spaced

The Madhyamik Routine 2027 packs eight papers into eleven calendar days, which leaves exactly three days with no exam. Two of those three are a weekend. Here is how they fall.

Seen on a calendar, the pattern is lopsided. The first week has a break in the middle, the second week has none at all.

  • First Language (Mon 15 Feb) to Second Language (Tue 16 Feb): no gap.
  • Second Language to History (Thu 18 Feb): one free day, Wednesday 17 February.
  • History to Geography (Fri 19 Feb): no gap.
  • Geography to Mathematics (Mon 22 Feb): two free days, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 February.
  • Mathematics, Physical Science (Tue 23 Feb), Life Science (Wed 24 Feb), elective (Thu 25 Feb): four days running, no gap.

The last four days are the hard part

From Monday 22 February the papers come four days in a row. There is no evening in that stretch that is free of the next morning’s paper. A student who keeps either science for “the night before” will find that night already taken up by Mathematics or Physical Science.

In short, the routine gives all its breathing room early. The weekend of 20 and 21 February is the longest break, and it is also the last one.

Exam timings for Madhyamik 2027, subject by subject

Every compulsory paper runs from 10:45 AM to 2:00 PM. According to the board, the first 15 minutes, 10:45 to 11:00 AM, are for reading the question paper only. Once that window closes, candidates have three hours of writing time.

The elective day, Thursday 25 February, works differently. A chart attached to the notice gives each group of electives its own finishing time, and some of them have practical components handled outside the written paper.

  • Sewing and Needle Craft: 10:45 AM to 3:00 PM
  • Music (Vocal and Instrumental): 10:45 AM to 1:00 PM; the venue, date and time of the practical will be announced later
  • Computer Application: 10:45 AM to 1:30 PM; the practical will be taken by the individual school
  • All vocational subjects taken as optional: 10:45 AM to 12:30 PM; the practical will be taken by the Sector Skill Council or individual schools
  • All other optional elective subjects: 10:45 AM to 2:00 PM
  • Physical Education and Social Service: dates to be announced later
  • Work Education: dates to be announced later

Note: The 15-minute window at the start is for reading only. A sensible use of it is to decide the order in which you will attempt the sections and to mark the questions you are surest of.

Revision pointers built around the gaps

None of this replaces your school’s plan or what your teachers are covering. These are practical pointers that come straight out of the calendar above.

Languages on 15 and 16 February

Two language papers open the exam on consecutive days. With no day between them, the Second Language cannot depend on the evening of 15 February alone. Get most of the Second Language revision done in the week before, and keep that Monday evening for a light read of notes.

History and Geography on 18 and 19 February

Wednesday 17 February is the only gap in the first week, and it sits right before History. Giving that day to History is the obvious move. Geography follows the very next morning, so map work and diagrams should be practised in the weeks before, not squeezed into Thursday evening.

Mathematics after the weekend

Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 February form the longest break in the routine, and the only stretch that precedes Mathematics. Two clear days are enough to sit one full practice paper under real conditions, three hours plus fifteen minutes, and still go over the mistakes. It is also the last real pause, so any loose ends in Physical Science and Life Science are best tied up by Sunday night.

Physical Science, Life Science and the elective

These come on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with nothing in between. Treat the two sciences as January work, not February work. If your elective is Computer Application or a vocational subject, remember that the written paper ends earlier (1:30 PM and 12:30 PM respectively) and the practical is handled separately, so ask your school when it will be held.

What the WBBSE notice says, and what is still pending

The routine was issued as notification No. EMU/C/35, dated 13 July 2026, and signed by the President-in-Charge of the board. It is a single page. Besides the dates and timings, it carries one line families should not skip: the board reserves the right to change the scheduled date or time if needed, with due intimation to all concerned. The schedule was also reported by the Free Press Journal.

Some things are not in the notice. Practical dates for Music, and the dates for Physical Education and Social Service and for Work Education, are listed in the notice as dates the board will announce later. Admit cards and results are outside the scope of this notice, so watch the board’s website and your school’s notice board for those. WBBSE has also put up a revised list of district conveners and joint conveners for Madhyamik Pariksha 2027 on its website, a sign that centre-level arrangements are moving.

Important: Carry your WBBSE admit card every exam day and reach the centre before question papers are distributed at 10:45 AM. If the board revises any date or time, your school will be informed, so keep in touch with your class teacher.

How to download the Madhyamik Routine 2027 PDF

Open the board’s website, wbbse.wb.gov.in. On the home page, find the link titled “MP Examination Routine” (MP here means Madhyamik Pariksha, not Madhya Pradesh). It opens the 2027 programme as a PDF in the browser, from where you can save or print it. The Madhyamik 2027 routine PDF can also be opened directly.

In Class 9 now? The age rule for Madhyamik 2028

Younger brothers and sisters have a circular of their own. In notice No. DS(E)/103/26, dated 9 July 2026, WBBSE told heads of recognised secondary schools that candidates born on or before 31 October 2013 will be eligible for the Madhyamik Pariksha 2028. Schools have been asked not to send the names of students born after that date, and no registration certificate will be prepared for them.

Other Class 10 board time tables for 2027

Maharashtra has also pencilled in 15 February 2027 for the start of its SSC written papers, though its board calls those dates probable for now (see the Maharashtra SSC time table 2027). If you are comparing boards or helping a cousin in another state, see the CBSE Class 10 date sheet 2027, the ICSE 10th time table 2027, the UP Board 10th time table 2027 and the Tamil Nadu 10th time table 2027.
